A natural gas is used as a fuel for vehicles; however, before hitting the road it needs to be compressed first. This is where compressed natural gas comes in. As its name suggests, natural gas is its original state. In order for it to fit in a fuel tank manageably, this natural gas has to be liquefied or compressed. When it comes to gas compression, there are various ways on how to do it. One of the most common ways is to compress natural gas is with the use of a diaphragm processor. This kind of processor has a series of different chambers, wherein each has a specifically designed membrane. The gas is being pumped into the first chamber, where the gas volume condenses. When it is already full, it will empty the gas into the other, which is a smaller engine that will continue to condense the gas. This process will be continued until the desired pressure is reached. The result product is non-toxic, lighter than air, inflammable, and odorless.

The natural gas is being compressed into a cylindrical container installed in the car trunk or in the other available spaces in a vehicle. Just like when the car refills a gas, natural gas is also pumped into the vehicle that passes through a line which is then compressed and stored. There are many refilling stations for CNG in the world; however, there are those who preferred to install one at their house. This is connected to their personal gas lines and allows to fuel conveniently.
Who Uses CNG?
For more than half a century now, CNG has been around. However, it is more frequently used today in different transport vehicles. At present, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen offer CNG cars and other large-fleet companies start adopting the system and integrate into their own fleet.
The use of CNG in transportation, as well as Marine CNG continues to grow because it is a less expensive and cleaner alternative to diesel, propane, and gasoline. CNG has always been one of the best options for vehicles that can be refueled on a daily basis and drive round trips such as passenger cars, public transportation buses, and fleet vehicles. This is due to the fact that CNG vehicles need to be fueled frequently in contrast to the LNG counterparts.
